The Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson is a cozy picture book from the Bear series, illustrated by Jane Chapman with warm, painterly artwork of a big, shaggy brown bear surrounded by his woodland friends. Published by Little Simon, it’s a sweet holiday story built around the same gentle, read aloud rhythm fans of the series already know and love.
In the story, Bear’s forest friends are determined to keep him awake through Christmas, so they rally him to help find a tree, bake cakes, hang stockings, and sing carols together. Along the way Bear discovers that giving to others is one of the best parts of the holiday, wrapping the story up with a warm, heartfelt message for little ones.
It’s a lovely addition to a holiday book collection or a cozy bedtime read throughout December, especially for kids who already enjoy the other Bear books. It also makes an easy stocking stuffer or gift for a young reader who loves animal stories with a message.
