On Christmas Eve, it always feels like something wonderful is about to happen.

It all begins with a large book box, its green cover softly worn with age. A round riser in dark black stain raises a trio of rustic little houses, one dark brown and two whitewashed, like a tiny village staying up past bedtime. Beside them, a grey speckled vase sends white snowberry branches climbing high above the rooftops, and a little green tree that reads "Believe in the Magic of Christmas" stands on a round willow base beneath a clear glass cloche. Styling tip: Position the book so its page edges face you. Place the riser on the left portion of the book and line the houses up on top, with the brown house at the back left, the tallest white house to its right, and the short, wide white house in front. Give the vase the spot just right of the riser, toward the back, and angle the snowberry branches slightly to the right. Rest the willow base at the front right, stand the little tree on it, and lower the cloche over the top. Hang the bell bundle down the front of the book, letting the knot rest along the top edge so the bells drop and spread out on the table. The branches draw the eye up, the bells draw it down, and the houses anchor the center, which makes the whole display feel tall and balanced.
